Questions and Answers about Radio Fence Systems

Q: What is the difference between the Standard and Deluxe Systems?
A: The only difference is in the Transmitter. The Deluxe Transmitter has the following features that are not available on the Standard Transmitter:

  1. Three training settings; Warning Tone Only, Warning Tone followed by Shock and Shock Only.

  2. Better lightning and surge protection.

  3. Much more powerful. This is needed in areas with snow, ice, rain that causes standing water or areas with adverse conditions that may cause interference.

Q: What is the difference between the Ultralight and Standard Receivers.
A:
The Ultralight Receiver is the smallest receiver in the world at only 1.5 ounces. As a rule of thumb, the Ultralight is recommended for pets under 50 pounds including cats. The Ultralight is an Omni-directional receiver so it will pick up the signal regardless of its position. The Ultralight requires (2) three volt lithium batteries. Average battery life is seven months.
The Standard Receiver weighs just 2.3 ounces and is not Omni-directional. The Standard Receiver's shock intensity is stronger than the Ultralight making it more appropriate for larger dogs, (over 50 pounds) or certain breeds such as Labs, hounds, Huskies, Shepherds, etc. The Standard Receiver requires one 6 volt battery. Average battery life is four months.

Q: What is the Stubborn Dog Receiver?
A:
The Stubborn Dog Receiver is designed for that occasional hard-to-train dog. The shock intensity is approximately 3 1/2 times as strong as our other receivers. Because it is so much more powerful, it is larger than our other receivers. It weighs about 5 ounces including the collar and battery. The battery is a common 9 volt (not included) and has an average life of 8 months.

Q: How deep do I have to bury the wire?
A: 1-3 inches. The reason for burying the wire is to give it protection from being cut or accidentally tripped over. We have successfully buried the wire as deep as 18 inches with no loss of signal on the Deluxe System.

Q: How many dogs can be put on the system?
A: An infinite number but each must be wearing a receiver collar.

Q: What size or type pet can be used on the system
A: Any size dog however, he must be trainable and able to comfortably wear the receiver.

Q: Can the receiver be used on my pet's present collar?
A:
Yes.

Q: How often do you have to replace the battery?
A:
Every 3-6 months. Battery life depends on how often your dog "tests" the boundary & the type of receiver.

Q: How long does it take to install?
A:
Allow approximately 2-3 hours for every 500 ft. of wire you are going to install. It depends on layout, soil conditions, tools, etc. A typical installation can be completed in one afternoon.

Q: Will the shock from the receiver collar be strong enough to keep my dog in the yard?
A:
No. One of the biggest misconceptions about underground fencing is that the "shock" alone will keep your pet within its boundary. While the beep and shock emitted by the receiver are a vital part of the Radio Fence system, the most important component is the TRAINING (which is described fully in the manual and video)! The shock is simply there to act as an "attention getter", a reminder of the location of the pets boundaries. When the dog hears the beep or receives the correction, he will be reminded that he is to remain within his boundary as he was trained to do. Also, the beep and shock make him aware that he is at the edge of his "play zone".

Q: How old must my pet be before he can be on a containment system?
A:
A pet must be at least four months old and beginning to obey basic commands such as sit, stay, come etc.
